For Armoured Combat and Cut-and-Thrust Fencing.

Fighting with the two-handed sword as taught by Filippo Vadi, Master of Arms to Guido di Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino. This class introduces the guards, footwork and tactics of a complete system for fighting with the two-handed sword, as practiced by nobles and men at arms in Northern Italy in the 1480s. Special emphasis is placed on the tactics to use once swords have crossed.

Who should attend:
In the words of Maestro Vadi, this useful art should not fall into the hands of uncouth men and those of lowborn condition. However this class is suitable for courtiers, scholars, barons, princes, Dukes and Kings. The teacher will leave it to the consciences of those attending which description they fit… no one will be turned away (even landsknechts).

What should you bring:

A rattan two handed sword or steel longsword. The ideal dimensions are a sword as long as the height of your armpit, but smaller or significantly larger ones can work with this system.

Hand protection and helmet or fencing mask may be useful in allowing faster drills. Cut-and-thrust or Heavy Armour is not necessary, tho' wearing this would allow you to try out techniques at speed towards the end of the class.
